India has carried out fresh missile and air strikes targeting Pakistan-administered regions under the ongoing Operation Sindoor. This comes in direct response to the Pahalgam massacre in which 26 Indian civilians, including tourists, were gunned down. Indian authorities claim the strikes targeted terror infrastructure used to stage cross-border attacks.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan's air defense responded to incoming strikes and has downed at least two Indian aircraft. Ground units have been placed on full alert across the LOC, and civilian areas near the strike zones have been evacuated.
The National Security Committee in Islamabad is meeting to decide on diplomatic and military measures. Pakistan has also reached out to the UN and OIC for an emergency session.
The April 23 Pahalgam massacre, where 26 civilians were killed, was the tipping point. India blames Pakistan-based militants for orchestrating the attack.
Operation Sindoor is India’s codename for the retaliatory campaign against militant bases in Pakistan-administered areas and Punjab border zones.
Pakistan claims it has activated air defense, downed Indian jets, and is preparing countermeasures. Diplomatic alerts have been sent to global allies.
According to Indian intelligence sources, more strikes may be carried out depending on the ground situation. Pakistan has said it will respond “forcefully.”
